The Princess Anne County Training School/Union Kempsville High School (PACT/UKHS) Alumni and Friends, Inc. will honor the educators who taught in the African-American schools in Princess Anne County from 1934 to 1969 this Saturday April 9. The theme of the event is “A Legacy Remembered” and will take place at 1 p.m. April 9 at the Landstown High School at 2201 Concert Drive.
The PACTS/UKHS will recognize living and deceased educators. Alumni, friends and family are asked to join in this celebration. Prior to the Black community’s raising money to build Princess Anne County Training School in 1938, a high school did not exist for the Black children in the county. The Black educators taught in churches and wooden structures consisting of one or more rooms until brick elementary schools were built with central heating and indoor plumbing. The cost for tickets is $10. For additional information, call (757) 523-2785 or margiecoefield@cox.net.
